To realize their goals, social entrepreneurs often collaborate with creatives, such as artists, designers, writers, and performers, who bring unique skills to the table. ‘Try doing it the storytellers’ way’ was a series of blended brainstorm workshops for storytellers to identify the artistic and creative skills essential for this synergy, for greater innovation, and a more vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem. “What can be the role of storytellers and storytelling in this process?”
Each time the starting point was the FEST Storyteller Competence Model with the question “Which competences in the four core competence domains- Researcher, Craftsman, Artist and Performer – are relevant for an entrepreneur and how?”
A researcher is curious, he/she can search and find story material, research background and cultural related meaning of stories.
The craftsman deals with quality: narrative and language, oral storytelling techniques, body language
The artist likes to experiment and to create from an inner drive. Artists want to express themselves in a personal way, to interpret, to offer a personal touch.
The performer in the storyteller wants to communicate with and move an audience.
The Challenge:
- If artists bring unique skills to the table, which skills are we talking about and how can we introduce them in the ‘backpack’ of an entrepreneur?
- What storytelling competences are relevant for entrepreneurs and how should a training workshop or coaching trajectory for entrepreneurs look like.
- What is the impact of this ‘new service’ on the business plan of the storyteller?
Target Groups/Clients:
Storytellers and entrepreneurs
Solutions:
- The research competences help entrepreneurs to find the right story with the right images, metaphors, message
- The craftsman competences help entrepreneurs to create compelling narratives that resonate with stakeholders and inspire action, to use appropriate and effective spoken language and narrative structures, use descriptive language and vivid imagery to make the story more engaging.
- The art competences help entrepreneurs to express personal drive, to empathise, to experiment, to imagine, create, concretise, and realise ideas.
- The performer competences help entrepreneurs to engage with their target group, to affect them, to respond to the moment.
Innovation:
- Pointing the finger on the specific competences in the SC Model helps to clarify their function and impact in an entrepreneurial context.
- This also opens clear paths to training, an appropriate approach, and appropriate exercises.
Impact:
New service offers for storytellers.
Better communication and stronger relationship between social entrepreneurs and their target groups / communities.
